If an individual is the owner of more than one Traditional/SEP or SIMPLE IRA, the RMDs must be determined separately for each IRA. However, the RMD amounts may generally be totaled and taken from any one or more of the individual's Traditional/SEP/SIMPLE IRAs.

RMDs required from other types of retirement plans, such as 401(k), 403(b) and 457(b) plans must be calculated and taken separately from each of those plans. With the exception of 403(b) plans, RMDs required from employer plans cannot be aggregated. RMDs for 403(b) plans that are determined separately for each 403(b) plan may be totaled, and taken from any one or more of the individual\'s 403(b) plans.

Roth IRAs are not subject to RMD during the life of the IRA owner. However, Roth 401(k), Roth 403(b) and Roth 457(b) accounts are subject to RMDs during the life of the account owner.

Special rules may permit non-owner individuals* who are still working to delay RMDs from an employer-sponsored plans in situations where the individual continues working for the sponsoring company beyond age 70½ for individuals whose date of birth is before July 1, 1949 or age 72 for individuals whose date of birth is after June 30,1949.

*An individual is generally considered a non-owner if he or she has less than 5% ownership interest (including no ownership interest) in the company that sponsors the plan in question.
